Mrs. Elizabeth L. “Betty” (Andrade) Usher, age 88, of Terrace Drive, Bristol, died Monday, June 13, 2022 at the Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, following a brief illness. She was the wife of Richard R. Usher, her husband of 66 years.
Born in Bristol on Goodings Lane, delivered by Dr. D’Angelo and a lifelong resident, she was a daughter of the late John and Mary (Mello) Andrade. Betty was a graduate of Colt Memorial High School, Class of 1952 and a 1956 graduate of Newport Hospital School of Nursing. A Registered Nurse for 34 years at the Providence Lying-In Hospital, then becoming Women’s and Infants Hospital retiring in 1992. Betty’s love of children shone through in her role as a labor, delivery, & recovery nurse. Besides being a loving, devoted wife, and mom, she was an awesome friend to all.
Betty was a communicant of Saint Mary of the Bay Parish in Warren and was a member of the church choir for many years. She loved to sing and was a member of the East Bay Chorus, the Citrus Park Chorus in Bonita Springs, FL where she and Dick wintered for many years. She was a member of the Newport Hospital School of Nursing Alumni Association, the Rhode Island Gladiolus Society and a member of the former Hope Circle, Daughters of Isabella. Betty’s favorite pastimes included feeding and watching her beloved birds, squirrels, and the neighborhood dogs and cat. She enjoyed knitting garments, and blankets for friends and family.
In addition to her husband, Richard, she leaves her children, Cynthia J. Rene (Domenic), Richard R. Usher, II (Charlene), Bonnie B. Usher and grandchildren, Lona M. Rene-Sullivan (James) and Jesse H. Usher Barrett (Meghan) and great granddaughter, Anissa E.R. Lancellotti and siblings, Angela A. Burke (the late James) and Dr. John R. Andrade (Paula). She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary E. Flack (Robert) and a brother, Gilbert Andrade (June).
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, Saturday, June 25, 2022 at 10:00 AM in Saint Mary of the Bay Parish, Main Street, Warren. Followed by a reception in the church hall. Burial will be private. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to:
