Richard C. “Dicky” Sousa, Sr., 82 of Bristol passed away in the community he loved and served all his life on Thursday, August 28, 2025 with his family at his side. He was the devoted husband of Francine (Caruso) Sousa for 58 years before his passing.
I lifelong Bristolian, he was the son of the late Frank and Elizabeth (Bullhose) Sousa.
After graduating from Colt Memorial High School class of 1961, Dicky immediately set out to serve and improve his community joining the Bristol Police Department in which he served nearly three decades, retiring as a Detective in 1994. He also served as the Head of Juvenile Division and a Juvenile Prosecution Officer. Dicky was a member of the Juvenile Hearing Board and the Bristol Substance Abuse Task Force. He was the President of the Bristol High School Boosters for Football and Hockey. He also served as the Assistant Manager for the Bristol American Legion baseball , Vice President of the Bristol Little and Babe Ruth Leagues, and the President of the Bristol Pop Warner Football League. He was a proud inductee of the Bristol Athletic Hall of Fame and also served as President of the Hall of Fame. He was also awarded the Hattie Brown Award.
He is survived by his wife” Francine (Caruso) Sousa; his son: Richard C. Sousa, Jr.; his grandchildren: Cory Sousa, Taylor Botelho (Neil), Lillian Sousa; his great grandchildren: Hailie Sousa, Salem Sousa, Onyx Sousa, Eris Sousa; his brother: Ronald Sousa; and many extended relatives and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend at Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, September 8, 2025 at 11 AM at St. Elizabeth’s Church, 577 Wood Street, Bristol. He will be laid to rest at the Cremation Garden at North Burial Ground, Hope Street, Bristol. Visiting Hours and flowers are respectfully omitted
