Mr. Manuel C. Ferreira, age 89 of Bay View Avenue, Bristol, died Sunday, May 7, 2017 at the Silver Creek Manor, Bristol surrounded by his daughter and family. He was the husband of the late Mary Ann (Oliveira) Ferreira, his wife of 62 years, who preceded him in death in 2015. Born in Bristol and a lifelong resident, he was a son of the late Joseph and Maria (Machado) Ferreira. He served in the US Navy during both WWII and Korean Conflict. He was a foreman for the former Kaiser Aluminum Corporation at their Bristol and Portsmouth facilities for over 20 years, retiring in the late 1970’s. He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth’s Church, Bristol and a member of the Nocturnal Adoration Society at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. He was an avid Red Sox, PC Friar Basketball, and NE Patriot Fan. He coached for many years for the St. Elizabeth’s Church CYO basketball program for both girls and boys teams. In his younger years he coached for the Bristol Blue Flames. He is survived by a daughter, Paula J. Ferreira of Bristol and a brother, Joseph Ferreira of West Warwick. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert Steven Ferreira and two sisters, Elvira Macedo and Beatrice Furtado. Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol, Friday, May 12, 2017 at 10:00 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM in St. Elizabeth’s Church, 577 Wood Street, Bristol. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol. Visiting hours Thursday, May 11, 2017 from 4:00-7:00 PM.
