Mr. Matthew A. “Papa” Calderiso, age 95 of Oliver Street, Bristol, died Thursday, March 9, 2017 at the Silver Creek Manor, Bristol. He was the husband of the late Marie Rose (Rainey) Calderiso, his wife of 61 years, who preceded him in death in 2010. Born in Bristol and a lifelong resident, he was a son of the late Michael and Libera (Troiano) Calderiso. Matt served in the US Army as a Corporal during WWII in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater receiving the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Service Star award. A rubber worker he first worked at the former Bristol Manufacturing Co. and Converse Rubber Co., formerly in Bristol and he retired from the former PF Industries, Bristol in 1984 after 46 years. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Bristol and he was an avid bowler, playing in the Dudek Leagues and the Converse Rubber Co League and enjoyed golfing. He is survived by two sons; Matt Calderiso (Janet) of Bristol and Tom Calderiso (Linda) of Bellingham, five grandchildren; Gregory Calderiso (Casey), Jill Waldman (Geoffrey), Daniel McKeown (Margery), Patrick McKeown (Amalie) and Kyle Calderiso, five great grandchildren; Gabriel, Logan, June, Isabelle and Olivia and a brother, Nicholas Calderiso of East Providence and a sister, Rose Conti of Bristol. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Julio, Joseph and Dominic Calderiso and three sisters, Mary Ziamba, Patricia Dunbar and Mona Corso. Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol, Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at 9:00 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 141 State Street, Bristol. Burial with Military Honors will follow in North Burial Ground, Hope Street, Bristol. Visiting hours Tuesday, March 14, 2017 from 4:00-7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bristol Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 775, Bristol, RI 02809.
