So many fond memories of the YMCA and Hog Island Day Camp. Hector was the best. He will be sorely missed. So sorry I will not be able to attend his services. I leave for Florida Wednesday morning at 6:10 AM.
God Bless.

I am so glad that I got to spend some time with Hector & Shirley last month when they were here in Florida. Fair winds and following seas, my friend. You and your family will always be in my thoughts and prayers.

Such an amazing man, Hector had a major impact on my early childhood in the 1960's.....either at the "Y" getting dropped off after school or the memories every summer @ Camp Hess on Hog Island..
Just read his obit......he gave so much to our Bristol. A role model to me and I'm sure I speak for the thousands of children and adults he encouraged. A man of class, dignity and yet so humble !
Maybe we should name part of the rec.center @ Colts Park " Hector Massa "

I live in the Midwest and am disappointed I will not be able to pay my respects to someone who was so good at respecting others, regardless of age. Many fond memories of the Y and of marching to the ferry with Eddie drumming, under Hector's leadership. Thank you and rest in peace Hector.

In Hector's Obituary, it mentions "The children would line up early on the sidewalk in front of the Y on Hope Street and march down regimentally to the beat of a drum." I was one of those drummers. Camp Hess was a big part of my childhood, as was Hector Massa. He did do much for the youth of Bristol, and he will surely be missed. While his memory lives on, a big part of Bristol is gone forever.

Thoughts and prayers to Eddie and the rest of Hector's family and countless friends.

Gratefully,

Mark Asciolla

To Shirley and family,

I want to send my deepest condolences to you all. Hector was a wonderful individual whom I have and will never forget. Throughout my years at Roger Wiiams College, he was a strong influence on me on and off the field. He was the voice that always pushed me to "Go to Class" and "Make sure I don't miss practice" Those short years of playing football are memorable because of Hector and I am grateful.
Thank you for enriching my life Hector Massa

Dear Shirley and Family: Our condolences on the passing of Hector. Agnes and I have such loving memories of our visits to your home over the holidays over the years with the kids! Hector had such a natural warmth and gift with kids! And as for the many years before with YMCA activities, and Hog Island Days, the memories, and warmth, and love, and good times can't begin to be counted. He was a true friend, confidant, gentleman and mentor in every sense of the word!! . He will be missed.

Hector was an inspiration to so many. In my introduction as Chief Marshal in 2014 he was one of the people I credited with shaping my life. He remained a good friend. At Hog Island Day Camp Hector used to say, "Good Morning you lucky people!" How lucky we and the town of Bristol were for him being a part of our lives and town

THANK YOU HECTOR "THE DIRECTOR". He gave so many people the chance to enjoy life.I am so thankful that I was one of them. Camp Hess was awesome, the YMCA was a great place to play and work at. You provided a swimming pool that opened the door for both a job and a sport that I am still doing today. I still hear those drums ....
