Mr. William F. Lannigan

December 10, 1929 ~ June 25, 2020 (age 90) 90 Years Old

Tribute

Mr. William F. Lannigan, aged 90, of Hopeworth Avenue, Bristol, died Thursday, June 25, at his home surrounded by family. He was the husband of the late Elinor Mae “Booty” Lannigan, his wife of 65 years, who preceded him in death in March of 2019.
Born and raised in Fall River, MA, and a longtime Bristol resident, Bill was the son of the late William H. and Sarah (Hetherson) Lannigan. Bill served his country proudly as a Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was a wire drawer for the ITT Company, formerly in Pawtucket, for over 40 years before retiring in 1995. An avid sportsman, Bill was a former president of the King Philip Little League, a founder of the Babe Ruth League and Senior Babe Ruth League, all of Bristol. An ardent bowler, Bill played in many leagues, most recently at Dudek Bowling Lanes in Warren. He played bocce for over 35 years, and played in the Hopeworth Bocce League since it was established with his late wife, Booty. For the past twenty years, Bill loved watching and cheering on local softball teams, specifically the Market Street Pub’s women’s team and the Common Pub men’s team. In 2018, Bill was inducted into the Bristol Athletic Hall of Fame, a proud day for him considering his lifetime dedicated to sports. Friends Bill has made along the way will serve as his honorary pall bearers: Mark Fisher, representing Hopeworth Bocce League, and Jodi, Kerri, and Amy Davock, representing the Market Street Pub women’s softball team.
Bill is survived by a son, Sean Lannigan of Bristol; a daughter Jill Lannigan Ott and her husband, Paul Ott, of Bristol; a son-in-law, Paul M. Castigliego, of Bristol; six grandchildren, Paul M. Castigliego, Kim Castigliego Butera, Shannon Rose Ott, Alexis J. Lannigan, Patrick Lannigan Ott, and Nicholas A. Lannigan; and four great-grandchildren, Stella and Luke Butera, and Chloe and Camille Castigliego. In addition to his wife and parents, Bill was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Lannigan Castigliego, and two sister, Mary Allen and Janice Lannigan.
