Ms Susan (Travers) Foley-Slusarski

Ms. Susan (Travers) Foley-Slusarski, age 60 of Russell Avenue, Bristol, died Saturday, January 7, 2023 after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer in the warm embrace of her three children.
Born in Providence and a lifelong resident of Bristol, she was the beloved daughter of the late Adeline Mary (Barboza) Travers and Joseph D. Travers.

Susan was a graduate of the Bristol High School class of 1980. She then continued her education and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Salve Regina University in Newport. After college, she worked as an RN in just about every nursing job imaginable. She worked in nursing homes, orthopedics at Rhode Island Hospital, as a legal consultant for medical cases, and even briefly did a stint in the emergency room at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. However, home care is where Susan excelled. She worked for a number of years with Visiting Nurses and other agencies, the latest being Amedisys Home Care out of West Bridgewater, MA.

When she wasn’t working tirelessly to provide care for her patients, Susan enjoyed spending time at home. She loved to cook excellent meals for family and friends and enjoyed watching a variety of cooking and home and garden programs. (Great British Bake Off was a favorite.) While watching tv she would crochet to keep her hands and mind occupied. Susan was always looking for the next fun crafting project. For many years she would have weekly craft nights with her girlfriends. Her happy place was her garden. Susan would spend hours tending to her plants or watching the birds and squirrels eat the seeds she put out for them.

She is survived by three children; Katie E. Foley of Bristol, Sara E. Slusarski (Tony Irons) of Somerville, MA and Christopher P. Slusarski of Bristol, a brother, Joseph R. Travers, Jr. (JoAnn) of Bristol and a sister, Jacqueline Taylor of Warren, three nieces, four great-nieces, and two great-nephews and she has a granddog, Murphy and an unnamed grandkitten on the way.

A Celebration of Susan’s life will be held at a later date and will be announced.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network or the Alzheimer’s Association.
