Michael Ruggiero

Dr. Michael Ruggiero, Phd. 79, of Bristol RI, passed away Thursday December 22, 2022 peacefully at home surrounded by his family. 

Michael was born and raised in Bristol RI where he graduated from Colt High School in 1961 where he was awarded Scholar-Athlete earning 7 letters.  He attended Providence College, and Catholic University and studied at Middlebury College.  He then went on to The University of Wisconsin where he earned his Phd. in Philosophy.  

Michael was a dedicated educator for the Providence Public Schools.  He taught both Italian and French in the secondary grades. He went on to be a High School Vice-principal before he retired in 1993.  Michael taught ESL at Assumption Parish in Providence and he taught evening classes in world literature at Providence College and Rhode Island College.

Audiophile at heart, Michael would spend time listening and playing everything from Classical, to Jazz to Modern rock, recruiting friends and family to listen and perfect the music.  Michael loves the game of golf and played year round in New England and Florida.  Most importantly he felt blessed to have his wonderful family, most of all his children and many nieces and nephews and cousins.   

He will be deeply missed by his wife Susan Ruggiero of 45 years.  He leaves five children, Michelle (Paul) Lagrandeur of Cumberland RI, Erin Foster of East Greenwich RI , Alicia (Chris) Farias of Tiverton RI, Michael (Courtney) Ruggiero of Fairfield CT, and  Paul (Allison) Ruggiero of Amesbury MA.  He will be missed by his eight grandchildren, Paul, Declan, Michelle, Virginia, Eloise, Colon, Nathaniel and James.  Michael also leaves two brothers John Ruggiero of Ebensburg PA, and Carmine Ruggiero of Barrington RI.  

   
Funeral services from Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol, will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2023. Visiting Hour from 9:00 – 10:00 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 141 State Street, Bristol.
