Mary (Sousa) Ciociola, 95, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 28, 2023. She was the loving wife of the late John M. Ciociola for 70 years before his passing in 2019.
A life-long Bristolian, she was the daughter of the late James and Almorinda (DeMattos) Sousa.
Mary graduated from Colt Memorial High School in 1945. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and a member of the Holy Rosary Altar Society. Mary was extremely talented and creative. She loved to knit, knitting caps for newborns at Women and Infants Hospital in Providence. She enjoyed crafting and donating her wares and time to numerous church bazaars and functions. She also enjoyed baking, and was known for her brownies and Danish puffs.
Mary is survived by her children: Carol Leschak and John M. Ciociola, Jr. (Kimberly), her grandchildren: Jennifer Stilkey (Adam Witham), James Leschak (Rhonda Baker), Kathryn Geagan (Matthew), Matthew Ciociola (Emilyrose); her great grandchildren: Keelie Turgeon, Stephanie Stilkey, Christopher Stilkey, Peter Stilkey, Aiden Geagan, James Geagan, Magnolia Ciociola; her brother Richard Sousa; and many extended family and friends.
She was pre-deceased by her beloved husband John, her daughter Barbara J. Rinaldi, her parents James and Almorinda, and her siblings: Lucille Pimental, Olivia Sousa, and James Sousa, Jr.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at Sansone Funeral Home. 192 Wood Street, Bristol from 4:00 – 7:00 PM. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, from Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol, RI at 9:00 AM , with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 141 State Street, Bristol, RI. Burial will follow North Burial Ground, Hope Street, Bristol. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name can be made to Bristol Rescue Squad, 4 Annawamscutt Drive, Bristol, RI 02809.
