John S. Selley, 90, passed away peacefully at the Grand Islander Nursing Center in Middletown, RI on Thursday January 7, 2021. He was the husband of the late Roseline (Dias) Selley for 62 years before her passing in 2015.
Born in Ambridge, PA, he was a paperboy until he joined the U.S. Navy in 1948. John served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He served as a Damage Control Chief, While in service, John served on 6 ships and was stationed in Newport, RI where he met his wife. John retired from the Navy in 1967.
After serving our nation, John went on to work at Roger Williams University as a Locksmith and Maintenance Team Member until 1992. He volunteered at the Portsmouth Senior Center for two decades. John was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He served as Secretary of the Locksmith Association of Rhode Island.
John enjoyed traveling with his beloved Roseline during retirement, especially his trip to Portugal. John loved to entertain. He especially enjoyed hosting annual Christmas and Independence Day parties attended by all his family and friends.
John is survived by his son Jody Selley of Bristol, his brother Michael Selley who lives in Pennsylvania. John also leaves behind many friends.
In addition to his wife Roseline, John was also preceased by his daughter April Selley.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday January 13, 2021 at 9 AM inside St. Elizabeth Church, 577 Wood Street, Bristol. Burial with Military Honors will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Bristol.
