John M. Ciociola, Sr, 92, of Bristol passed away on Friday August 16 surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife of 70 years Mary (Sousa) Ciociola. John was the son of the late Michael and Caroline (Aiello) Ciociola.
Born in Bristol, he was a graduate of Colt High School, class of 1947. In November of 1944 John joined the United States Navy and served honorably aboard the aircraft carrier USS Princeton CV37. After serving our nation he continued to serve his community as a member of the Dreadnaught Hook and Ladder Company #1, where he was a past captain and a lifetime member. John worked at Kaiser Aluminum for over 30 years retiring in 1983 as a general foreman.
John was an avid outdoorsman and was a member of the Prudence Island Bow Hunters Association. As well as being a huge Nascar fan, traveling to many of the racetracks with Mary to cheer on their favorite driver Jeff Burton. He also enjoyed golf and bowling and was a member of several leagues. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and AM Vets Post 37.
In addition to his parents John was predeceased by his siblings Matthew “Curly” Ciociola, Nicholas Ciociola, Grace Salzano and Frank Cirillo. He is also reunited with his daughter Barbara Jean Rinaldi.
In addition to his wife Mary, John leaves behind his children Carol Leschak, and John M. Ciociola ,Jr (Kimberly) all of Bristol. He is also survived by his grandchildren Jennifer Witham (Adam), James Leschak, Kathryn Geagan (Matthew), and Matthew Ciociola; his great grandchildren Stephanie, Christopher, and Peter Stilkey, Keelie Turgeon, Aiden and James Geagan.
Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol, Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at 9:00 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 141 State Street, Bristol. Burial will follow in North Burial Ground, Hope Street, Bristol. Visiting hours will be Tuesday, August 20, 2019 from 5:00-7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bristol Rescue Squad, 4 Annawamscutt Drive, PO Box 775, Bristol, RI 02809 or Silver Creek Manor Activities Fund, 7 Creek Lane, Bristol RI 02809.
