USN, Ret. CPO, John C. Bruscato passed away peacefully on July 23, 2022.
Born in Bristol, RI, he was the son of the late Cosmo and Mary (Mello) Bruscato.
John served in the Navy before retiring from service after 20 years. During his time in the Navy John served proudly aboard the U.S.S Forrestall and attained the rank of Chief Petty Officer. John and his family were stationed in numerous places including Sanford, Florida, Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Brunswick, Maine where he served as a SERE Instructor in Rangley, Maine.
Upon retirement John resettled in his beloved Bristol and was a Rhode Island Conservation Officer and in Boating Safety for many years. He loved his jobs and continued his love of the outdoors. John was an advocate for wildlife conservation and safety on Rhode Island waters. His mechanical skills allowed him to enjoy leisure time aboard the family’s Wooden Cabin Crusier on Mount Hope Bay. In his spare time, he would travel Rhode Island searching for wildlife interests of his, especially birds of prey.
What John enjoyed most though was the time he spent with his family. He enjoyed spending family time camping, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and taking harrowing rides on his nephew’s Catamaran at the family’s summer getaway at Island Park, Portsmouth. The family enjoyed the Fourth of July festivities in town and would always host their extended family and friends. John played the trumpet as a member of Bristol's Generations Drum and Bugle Corps, attending Drum Corp competitions were always a family event. His love for music was not limited to the trumpet. He would often be heard playing his harmonica, piano, and guitar.
John enjoyed car rides through Colt State Park always making sure to stop for some “nibbles”. No drive was complete without a trip to Flo’s Clam Shack. His family will miss these times and especially the precious moments spent in the home watching his favorite TV Land shows.
He is survived by his daughters Suzanne MacPherson (Craig) and Carolyn Bullock (James); his brother Raymond; and his grandsons: Chad, John, Alex, Evan, and James.
