It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of Janet Grace (Todaro) Como’s passing on August 27, 2021. Although she was 83 years old, she was always a child at heart. She will be greatly missed by her devoted husband Anthony Como to whom she was a dedicated and loving wife for 63 years. Although the last few months were difficult, she remained strong in faith and was always surrounded by a blanket of love. We will miss her tremendously since she left a hole in our hearts too soon.
Janet was born and raised in New York where she was introduced by a priest friend to her husband, Tony. They started a life together and later moved to Long Island where they raised three children, Francis, Rose and Gina. Janet loved teaching her Catholic faith to children and was very proud to be the Religious Education Coordinator of the Second grade for over 20 years at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Greenlawn. Janet and Tony were active for many years in Marriage Encounter for their former Diocese. There were lots of adventures on the family boat and during summer vacations in Noyack. She also loved Sammy our standard poodle/old English sheepdog!
Later, Rhode Island became home and Janet and Anthony settled in Middletown, and later in Warren. She continued to be a loving Nonnie who shared lots of love and laughter playing with Jeffrey and Catherine. Whether playing playdoh or having tea parties, she was always a favorite playmate, especially since she always had everyone’s favorite candy and treats! She loved to bake cookies, make pizza and sew as well as travel to the Maine house. Later she was very proud of every milestone and never missed the chance to celebrate with her family.
Janet was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Bristol. She was a woman of great faith and was a Eucharistic minister and a member of the Nocturnal Adoration Society. She was a secular Franciscan and strongly devoted to the Blessed Mother.
In addition to her husband Anthony, Janet also leaves behind her children: Francis Como, Rose Songer (William), Gina Orszulak (Mark); her grandchildren: Cameron Songer, Rebecca Songer, Jeffrey Orszulak, Catherine Orszulak.
