Tribute

Mrs. Gloria E. (Santos) Pasqual, age 80 of Bristol, died Thursday, August 13, 2020 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late John J. Pasqual, Jr., her husband of 54 years, who preceded her in death in November of 2012. Born in Colchester, Vermont, Gloria was raised in Bristol, and became a lifelong resident. She was the daughter of the late Joseph D. and Jessie L. (McNally) Santos. Gloria was a proud graduate of Colt Memorial High School, Bristol, Class of 1958 and the Fall River Diploma School of Nursing, where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing and her Master’s Degree in Science in Nursing, both from Regis University in Denver, CO. in 1975. A Registered Nurse, Gloria worked at Charlton Memorial Hospital, Fall River, MA from 1976 to 1997, and for the Providence Community Health Center on Allens Avenue, Providence from 1999 till her retirement this year. She was an active and devoted communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Bristol and was a member of the Holy Rosary and Altar Society, the Nocturnal Adoration Society and in 2007 was named along with her late husband, John, Chief Marshal of the 16th of July Feast Celebration of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, the highest honor given by the parish. Gloria lived a full life that included extensive travel throughout the globe with her husband John, including many visits over the years to Portugal and Italy to visit family. She had many hobbies including gardening, embroidery, sewing, cooking, baking, and reading. A close family friend once said in admiration of her many talents that “those hands could do anything”. Gloria excelled in the kitchen and developed a remarkable culinary reputation through sheer will and hard work that was unparalleled in the family. She loved to use the freshest herbs and spices that she would bring back from her many trips to Italy, which always made her Italian dishes and Christmas cookies and pastry so special. She adored her family and unabashedly made them her life-long priority in the most unselfish, unforgettable, and generous fashion. Gloria is survived by three children, Jane M. Glass (Richard) of Bristol, Joseph D. Pasqual (Laurie) of Manchester, NH and Mary E. Gerhard (Carl) of Bristol, a daughter-in-law, Sherry Pasqual, of Bristol, nine grandchildren, Joseph D. Pasqual II, Joshua J. Pasqual, Elizabeth J. Pasqual, Daniel J. Pasqual, Carl J. “CJ” Gerhard, John A. “Jack” Gerhard, and Mary Grace Gerhard, and Leeana and John Nito. She is also survived by great grandchildren Blake and Tyson Pasqual and Nora Mauricio. Also her brother, The Rev. Joseph D. Santos, Jr., Pastoral Administrator of Church of the Holy Name of Jesus, Providence. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, John J.
