Geraldine E. Turbeville

Geraldine Elizabeth Turbeville, 69, died unexpectedly on November 17, 2022 at her home in Providence, RI.

Born in Columbia, SC, she was the daughter of the late Harold L. Turbeville and the late Geraldine M. (Garvin) Turbeville.

She was a graduate of Warren High School Class of 1971 and attended Rhode Island Junior College. She later earned her Master’s degrees from the University of Cincinnati. She worked as a community organizer for many years including more than two decades as the Town Planner for Bristol, as well as spending a few years working part time as a Town Planner in Cumberland and Warren.

Throughout her life, Gerry was a living example of caring for others and doing her best to give to others, helping them find what they needed. This loving spirit extended to family, friends, and of course cats. She frequently volunteered, including as a Court Appointed Special Advocate, as a teacher of English as a Second Language, in local elections, two years in VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) in the Raleigh-Durham area of NC, and many other humanitarian endeavors. A voracious reader, she also enjoyed shopping and especially finding fantastic bargains. She will remain a part of all of our hearts, always being grateful for what she added to our lives. Love continues on and so does her effect on so many.

She is survived by her sister Margaret (Dean) Wilhelm of Wisconsin, her brother Timothy Allaire of Florida, as well as many nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service for Gerry at 5PM on Monday, December 5, 2022 at Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol, RI. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name can be made to the AmeriCorps VISTA program or the Rhode Island SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals).
