Gerald F. Serbst, 87, of Bristol, passed away peacefully in his bed on Tuesday, March 5, 2024. He was the husband of Joan (Wolowiec) Serbst for the last 57 years before his passing.

Born in Providence, RI, he was the son of the late Henry and Gladys (Rodman) Serbst.

Gerry graduated from Colt Memorial High School in Bristol, Class of 1954. After high school, Gerry went on to serve our nation in the United States Army and served in Korea as a member of the Army Security Agency after the war. Honorably discharged in 1956, Gerry enrolled in the Culinary Institute of America. An award winning chef, Gerry enjoyed entertaining friends and family with his culinary skills, especially during Bristol’s 4th of July celebration.

Gerry was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Bristol. A kind man with a warm soul, his sense of humor brightened every room he entered. He was an avid golfer in good health and loved his Providence College Friars until the very end. Gerry also served on the Board of Directors for the Linden Place Museum.

In addition to his wife Joan, Gerry also leaves behind his children: Jonathan Serbst (Jennifer Serbst) and Liesel Serbst (Ronald Burch); his beloved cat: Mindy; and many extended family and friends.

Gerry was pre-deceased by his parents: Henry and Gladys; and his siblings: Henry Serbst, Rita Marra, Marylou Rogers.

A Visiting Hour will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol from 9:00 AM- 10:00 AM. His funeral will start from Sansone Funeral Home at 10:00 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Church, 330 Wood Street, Bristol. Burial will be private.
