Edward E. Oliver, 95, of Bristol passed away Sunday, February 12, 2023 at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. He was the devoted husband of the late Doris (Francoeur) Oliver.
Born in Bristol, he was the son of the late Manuel and Sophie (Cabral) Oliver.
At the age of 16, Edward went on to serve our nation during WWII in the United States Marine Corps. He worked as the supervisor of the Shipping & Receiving Department at Kaiser Aluminum for 35 years. During this time, he attended Bryant College. Edward was a communicant of St. Elizabeth’s Church in Bristol and St. Mary of the Bay Church in Warren. Edward was a Third Degree Honorary Life Member of Bristol Council 379 Knights of Columbus. He served two terms on the Bristol School Committee from 1970-1978. Edward was a member of the National Guard Rifle Team.
Edward loved spending time on the front porch with his service dog, Bernard. He enjoyed watching the deer, turkeys and ducks. He loved to supervise gardening and landscaping. His smile lit up the room. He had a great love for his family. His family meant the world to him. He will be greatly missed by all.
Edward is survived by his children: Deborah Fontaine (David), Jean Oliver, Michael J. Oliver (Valerie Malone), Kathleen Matuska (Steven), Regina Doumaney (George); his grandchildren: Rochelle Hickey (Steve), Kristine Guo (Rudy), Katie Oliver, Meghan McMullen, Connor McMullen, Ana Malone Oliver, Alexia Malone Oliver, Lauren Fillak (Michael), Steven J. Matuska (Taylor), Travis E. Doumaney, Tyler E. Doumaney; his great grandchildren: Roland, Oliver, Sawyer, Beau, Drake, Penelope, Ellie; his sister: Delphina Souza; and many extended family and friends.
He was pre-deceased by his wife Doris, his son Lt. Col. Allen Oliver, his parents Manuel and Sophie (Cabral), and his siblings Gilbert and Anthony Oliver.
Visiting hours will be held Friday, February 17, 2023 at Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol from 4:00 – 7:00 PM. His funeral will be held Saturday, February 18, 2023, from Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol, RI at 10:00 AM, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St. Elizabeth’s Church, 577 Wood Street, Bristol, RI. Burial with Military Honors will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol.
