Mr. Dennis T. Labao, age 73 of Brook Farm Drive, Bristol, died Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center, Providence, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Denise Asciola, his wife of 16 years. Born in St. Michael’s, the Azores, he was a son of the late John and Maria (Alves) Labao. Dennis was a Bristol resident most of his life, coming to Bristol as a young boy of 7 from the Azores. Dennis served as a private in RI Army National Guard during the Vietnam War Era. Dennis worked for the Town of Bristol Department of Public Works for 31 years, retiring in 1999 as their head foreman. He was a Life Member of the Hydraulion Engine & Hose Co. No. 1 and a Past Captain of the Fire Police of the Bristol Volunteer Fire Department where he also served for a number of years as an Assistant Chief of Training. He was a member and Past Captain of the Bristol Police Reserves for a number of years and served on the Bristol Harbor Patrol and a former Assistant Harbor Master for 16 years. Dennis was an avid boater, loved salt water fishing and quahoging in the Bristol area waters. In addition to his wife he leaves three children; Lynn A. Mahoney and Cindy L. Labao, both of Bristol and Jason M. Asciola of Dorchester, MA, a grandson, Eoghan R. Mahoney, and two sisters; Margaret Travassos (the late Oliver) and Amanda Silveira (Joseph), all of Bristol. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Albano Labao. Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial, Saturday, September 23, 2017 at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 141 State Street, Bristol. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bristol Fire Department, P.O. Box 775, Bristol, RI 02809.
