Albertina (Delgado) Castro

February 20, 1924 ~ October 29, 2017 (age 93) 93 Years Old

Albertina (Delgado) Castro, 93, of Bristol, died peacefully at her home on Sunday, October 29, 2017. The lifelong resident of Bristol was a 1942 graduate of Colt Memorial High School and a lifetime member of the Defiance Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

She is preceded in death by her spouse, Joseph “Lefty” Castro, parents Anthony and Grace (Perpetua)Delgado, and siblings Formalinda Estrella, Louis Delgado and Paul Delgado.

She is survived by son Kenneth J. Castro of Bristol, grandson Alexander J. Castro of Attleboro, Mass., and sister Mary Butfiloski of Florida.

An unfailingly friendly person, Tina delighted family, friends and, later in life, even caretakers with her warmth, generosity, and laughter. A kind, forgiving soul, she savored spending time with loved ones, especially her son Kenneth, who was not only her neighbor but a constant companion. She was always ready for lunch or a road trip.

Tina’s sensitivity was emotional as well as artistic. She furthered her education by attending nighttime art classes at RISD and Bristol Community College. She continued making art into her senior years, and especially enjoyed painting with acrylics, often using repurposed slates or fabric for her canvases. A skilled drafter, she was quick with a pencil and could easily duplicate drawings. Florals, cartoons and anything “cute” usually comprised her subject matter.

Reading was the other great pleasure and pastime of Tina’s life. She consumed magazines and books, especially memoirs, at an impressive rate, sometimes finishing a volume a week. Even as she aged and this activity became more difficult, Tina eagerly read articles written by her son and grandson, both of whom work as writers.

On warmer days, Tina enjoyed sitting on the steps of her home. She would quietly watch the day pass on the street where she grew up, the street where she lived and loved.
