William James Satterfield Iii

William James Satterfield, III, 88 of Bristol passed away peacefully on Monday, May 15, 2023. He was the husband of Elizabeth Ann (ONeill) Satterfield. William, "Bill", was born on March 2, 1935 in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was the son of the late Marion A. Gist and the late William James Satterfield, II. After Bill graduated from Glen Ridge High School in New Jersey, he went on to study at Newark College of Engineering. He graduated with a degree in chemical engineering, and landed his first job with Thomas Edison. Bill met Elizabeth on a Caribbean Cruise in December of 1967. They got married a few months later in August of 1968. They built a home on Tinker Hill in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania where they had three children, William James Satterfield IV, Janel Chard, and Melinda Gist. Bill moved his family to Simsbury, Connecticut in 1976 to begin working as an expert in fire protection and insurance for Industrial Risk Insurers and later for Hartford Steam Boiler. After 22 years, Bill and Elizabeth retired to Bristol, Rhode Island. Through the years, Bill enjoyed playing golf, sailing, reading, and spending time with his family. He was most proud of his grandchildren, Tierney, Ainsley, William and Jackson. He loved travelling, and made annual trips to vacation in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. He is survived by his children: William J. Satterfield, IV (Veronica), Janel S. Heath (Zachary), Melinda G. Satterfield; his grandchildren: William J. Satterfield, V, Jackson S. Satterfield, Tierney E. Heath, Ainsley R. Heath; and extended family and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Monday, May 22, 2023 at 1:00 PM at North Burial Ground, Hope Street, Bristol.
