Mr. William F. “Bill” Head, age 92, of King Philip Avenue, Bristol and Arcadia, FL, passed away, Tuesday, August 28, 2007 at Silver Creek Manor, Bristol, RI. He was the beloved husband of the late Virginia “Ginny” (Wood) Head. They had been married 50 years. Born in Pawtucket, RI, a son of the late William J. and Irene (Taylor) Head, he spent his life giving to his family and community. He served in the US Army during WWII. Mr. Head was a life member and co-founder of the DAV, Lawson-Raiola Chapter # 15, and was their second commander. He was in the American Legion. He was a 74 year member of the Bristol Volunteer Fire Department, Hydraulion Engine & Hose Co., No. 1, Bristol. An Eagle Scout, he was in scouting for many years and served as a Boy Scout leader and a Girl Scout leader with his late wife. He was a member of the Boy Scout Band, founded by the late George Fish. A founder of the Veterans Band, he was the manager of the Bristol Rangers Drum and Bugle Corps and was President of the RI Drum Corps Association. He belonged to the New England Campers Association, serving as the second president of the Rhody Rovers. He was a member of the Jonnycake Chapter and the Quahog Chapter. He worked for the Town of Bristol. Upon retirement, he and his late wife owned and operated Mrs. Heads Nursery School in Bristol, RI. Mr. Head loved music, he and his late wife entertained at many nursing homes. He taught line dancing through age 91. He attended all local concerts and called himself “an old dancing fool.” Mr. Head was a communicant of St. Mary Church, Bristol and St. Pauls Catholic Church in Arcadia, FL. He leaves his son, Lee W. Head and his wife, Patricia, of Sarasota, FL, his daughter, Lynda Guevremont and her husband William of Jupiter, FL, grandchildren, Wayne Head and his wife Julie of Sarasota, FL, Lee Head, Jr and his wife Sandra and Lisa Ryder, all of Bristol, Laurie Guevremont of Tequesta, FL and Major William Guevremont and his wife Donna of Missouri, 11 great grandchildren, a sister, Grace Silva and cousin, Russell Head and his wife, Irene, of Bristol, many nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol, Friday, August 31 at 9:00 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Mary Church, 330 Wood Street, Bristol. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Westville Cemetery, Taunton, MA. Visiting hours, Thursday, 4:00 - 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Bristol Fire Dept. Memorial and Welfare Committee, P.O. Box 775, or to St. Marys Church “Restore Her Beauty Campaign”, 330 Wood Street, both Bristol, RI 02809 or to St. Pauls Catholic Church, 1208 East Oak Avenue, Arcadia, FL. 34266.
