Mr. Thomas F. VanVoast, 91 of 363 Wood St., Bristol, died Friday, July 31, 2009 at Silver Creek Manor Nursing Home, Bristol. He was the husband of the late Adelaide C. (Fiore) VanVoast. Born in Bristol and a lifelong resident, he was the son of the late William H. and Lena (Mahoney) VanVoast. He retired from the RI Veterans Home as a pharmacist Aid and store keeper. He also worked with his father and sister in-law, Vicki at Vans Spa for many years. He was a WW II Army Veteran serving with the 355th Fighter Squadron “Mustangs” in Normandy, Northern France, and Central Europe. He graduated from Colt Memorial High School Class of 1936 where he was the Captain of the Baseball Team. He was also known in his youth as the Horseshoe Pitching Marvel of the Bristol Playgrounds. He is survived by his nephew, William R. VanVoast and his wife Paula and great nephews Donald and Eric VanVoast, all of Bristol. In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded in death by his brother Donald W. VanVoast. Funeral Services will be held from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood St., Bristol, Tuesday at 9:00 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Marys Church, 330 Wood St., Bristol. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Marys Cemetery, Chestnut St., Bristol. Visiting hours Monday, 4:00-7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Marys Church, 330 Wood St., Bristol, RI 02809.
