Thomas Michael Godbout, 18, of Bristol passed away peacefully at Hasbro Children’s Hospital on Monday, June 16, 2025. He was the beloved son of Peter and Jill (Pitocchelli) Godbout and big brother to Jack, Elise, and Penelope.
Thomas was a proud communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. He graduated from Mount Hope High School in Bristol with the Class of 2024 and began his studies at Quinnipiac University, where he majored in Biomedical Sciences.
Thomas was only 18 years old, but he was our protector, our joy, our anchor. He lived with a wisdom and spirit far beyond his years. For almost seven years, he battled leukemia, an unimaginable burden for someone so young. Yet he carried it with quiet strength, courage, and grace. He never let his illness define him. He never complained.
He understood the value of a shared meal, and of a hug that says more than words ever could. He was a son, a brother, a teammate, a friend. People naturally looked to him, not because he asked for it, but because of who he was. He was the light in a dark room.
He loved hiking in Maine. The trees, the wind, the quiet of the trails, all of it brought him peace. Maybe that’s where he felt most free. In the sunlight, in the mist, in the stillness of nature, he found calm and joy. We will always find you there, Tommy. In the morning sun, in the cool waters of Webb Lake. And if we listen closely, we will still hear your laughter echoing through the trees.
Thomas loved hockey. Not just the game, but the soul of it. The cold rinks, the thrill of speed, the sound of skates carving into the ice. He played with heart. And even when he could no longer take to the rink himself, he cheered louder than anyone, especially for his brother. In the end, Tommy scored his own hat trick by beating cancer for the fourth time.
Grief is the price we pay for love. Tommy, your story was shorter than we hoped, but you lived with strength and loved with your whole heart. You are not gone, but free. Not forgotten, but eternal in the hearts of all who love you.
We will hear your laughter in every board game around the table, in every inside joke, and in every star-strewn night. We will feel your hand in ours, the strength you gave us without even knowing. Tommy, you will always be our big brother, our wild thing, and the boy who never gave up and always lived life to the fullest.
In addition to his parents and siblings, Thomas is also survived by his grandparents: Joseph & Marie Travers of Bristol, RI, Raymond & Catherine Pitocchelli of Mansfield, Massachusetts, and Philip & Eileen Godbout of Manchester, New Hampshire as well as aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
