The Rev. Thomas L. Convery, S.S.C.

The Rev. Thomas L. Convery, S.S.C., age 92, of the Columban Fathers Retirement Center, Ferry Rd., Bristol, died Friday at the Silver Creek Manor, Bristol. Born in Trenton, NJ a son of the late William J. and Mary (Waldron) Convery, he has been a resident of Bristol since 1994. Father Convery was a Roman Catholic Priest for 66 years with the Missionary Society of St. Columban, serving the Church in the Philippines for the major part of his priesthood. He was ordained to the Priesthood on December 21, 1940 at SS. Peter and Paul Cathedral in Providence. During his years in the Philippines he was a Pastor, Educator, Superior, Vicar General, Founding Immaculate Conception Academy in Zambales and Columban College in Olongapo City and served as the Superintendent of Catholic Schools in Zambales and as the auxiliary Chaplain at the US Naval Base in Subic during the 1960s. After returning to the United States in 1972, he served his order as Superior, Vocational Director, Chaplain and doing Pastoral work, continuing during these last few years to his fellow patients at Silver Creek Manor. He is survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, William J., Vincent and Robert Convery, and three sisters, Mary Barrett, Catherine Mahan and Anne Engemann. Relatives and Friends are invited to attend a Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial, Tuesday, Feb. 27, at 11AM in the Chapel of the Columban Fathers Retirement Center, 65 Ferry Rd., Bristol. Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence. Visiting hours Monday, 2-4 and 7-9 PM in the Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Columban Fathers, for their continued work in the Philippines, 65 Ferry Road, Bristol, RI 02809.
