CEREMONY DATES CORRECTED/UPDATED Mrs. Shirley (Rogers) Gablinske Nunes, age 95, of Cliff Drive, Bristol, died at the Hope Health Philip Hulitar Hospice Center on December 14, 2023. She was the wife of the late Alfred N. Nunes in 2009, the late Herbert R. DeLeo in 1998 and the late William F. Gablinske in 1971. She buried all three of her loving husbands and was married for more than 50 years and a believer in the sanctity of marriage. Born and raised in Little Compton, RI, a daughter of the late Anthony and Ruth (Handy) Rogers. Shirley was a Bristol resident most of her adult life. She was employed by the State of RI School Lunch Program at Warren High School for 22 years, retiring in 1989. She previously worked for Converse Rubber Co., US Rubber Co. and Kaiser Aluminum Corp., all formerly of Bristol. She was a member of St. Michaels Episcopal Church, Bristol, the Martha Washington Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star in Warren and Rebekka Lodge of Odd Fellows in Bristol. Shirley persevered through the deaths of her mother and stepfather at an early age, her three husbands and a grandson. She was an inspiration to her three children and grandchildren on moving forward in life through adversity. She was able to live independently in her own home until the middle of October. She is survived by three children, former Representative Douglas W. Gablinske (Patricia) of Warren, Linda L. Gablinske of Providence and Wayne A. Gablinske (Linda Marie) of Bristol, four grandchildren, Carl Benevides, Andrea Andrew, Hailey Gablinske and Lauren Meader, as well as six great grandchildren and a half-brother, Edwin Ted Rogers of Vermont. Shirley was the stepmother to Ann DeLeo, Herbert DeLeo and Peter Nunes. She was also the step grandmother to Natasha Medeiros and John Medeiros. In addition to her husbands and her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Derek W. Gablinske, a daughter-in-law Leann Gablinske and four half-sisters, Eunice Henry, Lorraine Soellner, Anne Mongeau and Patricia Sweitzer. Visiting Hours will be held at Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, from 5:00 PM 7:00 PM. Her funeral service will start from the Sansone Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 3rd, which will be her 96th birthday, at 9:00am with a Requiem Eucharist Service at 10:00AM in St. Michaels Episcopal Church, 399 Hope Street, Bristol. The burial will follow in North Burial Ground, Hope Street, Bristol. In honor of her third husband Alfred N.
