Shirley J. Baker

Mrs. Shirley J. (Heilhecker) Baker, age 85, formerly of 1 Creek Lane, Bristol, died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008 at Bayberry Commons, Pascoag, RI. She was the wife of the late William I. Baker, III. Born in Bristol and a lifelong resident, she was the daughter of the late Eugene C. and Josephine (Berard) Heilhecker. She was a graduate of Colt Memorial High School, Class of 1940, Bristol. A textile worker, she worked at Kaiser Aluminum in formerly in Bristol, American Tourister, Warren and retired from the former Premier Thread Co., Bristol a number a years ago. Mrs. Baker was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Warren and Bristol, she was an Artist in watercolor and oil mediums, most especially portraits of her children, sea and winterscapes as well as some of the historical homes of Bristol. She is survived by three children; Steven W. Baker of Vernon, CT, Nancy L. Taylor of North Smithfield, and Deborah V. Snitzer of Warren, five grandchildren; Heather L. Sapienza of Lawrence, MA, Jody A. Gottmann, West Simsbury, CT, Geoffrey B. Taylor of Cabot, AR, Raymond W. Taylor of North Smithfield and Martha J. Gomes of Riverside, five great grandchildren; Holly, Leah, John, Katherine and Madison, and a nephew, Eugene C. “Rusty” Heilhecker, III of Bristol. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene C. Heilhecker and a nephew, Eric Heilhecker. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service, Saturday, October 4, 2008 at 12:00 Noon in the North Burial Ground, Hope Street, Bristol. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Friends of the Bristol Animal Shelter, 11 Broadcommon Road, Box 155, Bristol, RI 02809 or to the American Diabetes Assoc., 222 Richmond Street, Suite 204, Providence, RI 02903. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Sansone Funeral Home, Bristol.
