Salvatore P. Parella

Salvatore P. Parella, 82, of Bristol, died May 30th at home, surrounded by his devoted family. He was the beloved husband of Bernice (Callan) Parella, his wife of 53 years. He was born in Bristol to the late Francesco and Antonetta (Giordano) Parella. Mr. Parella was the co-owner of Bristol Furniture Co. of Bristol for over 50 years. He was a medic in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member and past president of the Leonardo DaVinci Lodge, Sons of Italy; tutor and board member of the East Bay Literacy Volunteers of America, and a 45 year member of Bristol Council # 379,Knights of Columbus. Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Bristol Councilwoman Mary Parella and Sally Battison and her husband Andrew of Bristol; and his two sons, former Bristol Town Administrator Joseph Parella and wife Gail of Bristol and John Parella and wife Amy of Atlanta, Georgia. He was the loving grandfather of Alyssa, Peter, Joseph, Mathew, Anthony, and Andrew Parella, and Gregory Battison, his best buddy. He is also survived by his sister Jennie Parella of Bristol, and two brothers, Rev. Francis J. Parella SSP of Staten Island, NY and Frank J. Parella of East Providence. He is preceded in death by his sisters Virginia Parella and Catherine Vaccaro, as well as his brothers Fred Parella and Gaetano Parella. Sal will always be remembered for his devotion to family, hard work, kindness and his warm smile. His funeral will be held on Thursday, June 4, at 10 a.m. from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood St., Bristol, followed by a Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 141 State St., Bristol. Burial will be in St. Marys Cemetery.
