Roger J. Travers

Mr. Roger J. Travers, age 64, of East Providence formerly of Bristol, died unexpectedly on Sunday, January 18, 2009. He was the husband of Louanne M. (Guida) Travers, his wife of 40 years. Born in Bristol, he was a son of the late Joseph and Caroline G. (Martino) Travers. He was a resident of East Providence for 40 years, previously residing in Bristol. Mr. Travers was a graduate of Colt Memorial High School, Bristol class of 1962. He received his B.S. degree in Accounting from Bryant University, Magna cum Laude and continued post graduate work at Providence College. He was a Staff Sergeant in the US Marine Corps during the Vietnam Era and was a charter member of the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation. He was a vice president and director for the Raytheon Corp. for 39 years, retiring in 2005. He was a communicant of St. Marthas Church, East Providence. He was a member of the Aerospace Industry Association and the Cost Principals Commission and Bryant University Alumni Association. A private pilot, he was a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Todd J. A. Travers and his wife, Diane of Bristol, and also survived by several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Douglas Travers and a sister, Brenda Hawksley. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial Friday, January 23, 2009 at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 141 State Street, Bristol. Burial with Military Honors will follow in North Burial Ground, Hope Street, Bristol. Visiting hours, Thursday, January 22, 2009 from 6:00-8:00 PM in the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Marine Toys for Tots, RI Chapter, 1 Narragansett Street, Providence, RI 02905.
