Peter P. Calise

Peter P Calise, 85, passed away on June 24, 2024. Living most of his life in East Providence, he retired in Bristol being a snowbird in South Pasadena, Florida. Born in Rehoboth, Mass, he was the son of the late Mary Elizabeth (DeAquiar) and Gaetano George Calise. He graduated from East Providence High School in 1957 where he was Treasurer of his class and took great pride in planning the 1957 Class Reunions. He was an outstanding wrestler being the 1957 RI State Champion and the 1959 NE AAU Champion. Thereafter, he was inducted into the Rhode Island Wrestling Hall of Fame. Peter graduated from Providence College in 1962 and earned his Masters Degree in Public Administration from the University of Rhode Island. He went on to serve as the Director of the State of Rhode Island Water Resources Board from 1968-1991. As an active public servant, Peter also served as Chairman of the East Providence Board of Assessment Review for several decades. He was an avid New York Yankees and Chicago Bears fan. He loved his daily crossword puzzles, his Sunday flea market finds and playing golf where he had been a member of Segregansett Country Club. He cherished his time with family and friends at his Bristol cottage where he was happiest quahogging in the Kicki and enjoying his Rhode Island seafood. He was an active member with the Sons of Italy in America where he served as National Trustee of the Supreme Lodge and as President of the Grand Lodge of Rhode Island. He was a life member of the East Providence Lodge. Peter is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carol (Sousa) Calise. He was the proud father to Laurie J Tirocchi (Jerry) of Lisbon, Ct, John D Calise (Stephanie) of East Providence and Christopher Calise of Seekonk, Mass. Joyfully known as Pa to his beloved grandchildren Matthew J Tirocchi, Ryan G Tirocchi, Danielle R Tirocchi, Sophia M Calise and Gaetano G Calise III. He also leaves behind his sister Elizabeth Soderlund of East Providence. He was pre-deceased by his parents, his brother Geatano G Calise Jr, and brother-in-law Robert S Soderlund. His funeral services will start from Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, with a Visitation from 9:00 AM- 10:00 AM at Sansone Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 141 State Street, Bristol at 11:00 AM. Peter will be laid to rest at North Burial Ground, Hope Street, Bristol.
