Paul P. Jarvis, 79, of Cumberland died peacefully on June 16, 2008 with his loving wife, Dorothy (Quinn) Jarvis, by his side. Born in New York City, he was the son of the late Walter J. Jarvis, Sr. and the late Mildred (LaVigne) Jarvis and the brother of the late Walter J. Jarvis, Jr. He was a Navy veteran serving at the end of World War II as a firefighter on aircraft carriers. After their marriage in 1950, Paul and Dolly moved to Rhode Island and lived for many years in the Lippitt Estate neighborhood of Cumberland. Before moving to Chimney Hill Apartments two years ago, he lived for twelve years at Kirkbrae Apartments in Lincoln. He was employed for 33 years by the Owens Corning Fiberglas Corporation in Ashton retiring in 1983. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Paul Jarvis, Jr. (and his wife, Jackie) of South Attleboro, Jeffrey Jarvis (and his wife, Linda) of Woonsocket and his daughter Cynthia Keating of Barrington as well as eight grandchildren (Erin, Elizabeth, Katie, Colleen, Meghan, Andrew, Sarah & Benjamin), three great-grandchildren (Joseph, Marion & Elijah) and four step-grandchildren (Carrie, Katie, Bradford & Katelyn). He was also the father of the late Wayne Jarvis and father-in-law of the late Brenda Jarvis. He was a member of the Chimney Hill Tenants Association; a former member of the Lippitt Estate Association; a former Assistant Scoutmaster with Boy Scout Troop 50; a former member of the Cumberland Beagle Club; a former member of the Tropical Fish Society of Rhode Island and a former member of “Hildas Train Club.” Before and after his retirement, Paul enjoyed many different leisure activities. One of his favorites was seasonal camping with his wife for many years on “Jarvis Lane” at Worden Pond Family Campground in Wakefield. He enjoyed reading, researching topics of interest, listening to music, watching western and war movies, attending his grandchildrens sporting and music events and watching his sons entertainment shows. Paul was also an avid hobbyist. He will best be remembered for his prize-winning tropical fish and for the elaborate model railroad which he built by hand and creatively added to over the years. A private burial at the convenience of the family will take place at Resurrection Cemetery in Cumberland. Donations in Pauls memory to the church, charity or school of your choice will be greatly appreciated. Arrangements have been entrusted to Sansone Funeral Home of Bristol, Rhode Island.
