Myrtle Irene Brockway

Mrs. Myrtle Irene Brockway, 87 passed away peacefully on May 22, 2009 at the Rhode Island Veterans Home in Bristol. She was born in Foxboro, Massachusetts; May 24, 1921, the daughter of the late Percy Hudson and Elsie (Sloan) Hudson. Sadly, Elsie died 5 days later from childbirth complications and Myrtle was raised in Providence by her loving Aunt and Uncle the late Florence (Lamson) Slone and Gilbert Slone, Sr. A 1939 graduate of Hope High School, Myrtle later joined the WAVES during WWII serving proudly in Lakehurst New Jersey. After the war, she returned to the Providence area where she met her future husband, Floyd Brockway. They were married Feb. 22, 1950 in Providence. She lived in the Greater Providence area with her husband raising her family for many years until 1992, when she moved to the RI Veterans Home. She was predeceased by her husband Floyd in 1982, her birth and step parents and all of her many brothers, sisters and first cousins from her extended family. Surviving are three sons, William Watson and his wife Judy of Rockland, Mass.; Raymond Brockway of Cranston; Wayne Brockway and his wife Cindy of Kennebunk, Maine; Seven grandchildren, Michelle (Watson) Himes and her husband Joel of Taunton, Mass.; William Watson and his wife Kara of Tomball, Texas; Joseph Watson and his wife Alyssa of Warwick; Mary Watson of Brookline, Mass. ; Elizabeth Brockway, Alex Brockway and Sarah Brockway all of Kennebunk, Maine. Also surviving are 5 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held in Bristol at the RI Veterans Home Chapel, 480 Metacom Ave., Bristol on Thursday May 28th at 10:30AM. Burial with Military Honors will follow at the RI Veterans Cemetery in Exeter. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either: Cranston ARC, P.O. Box 20130, Cranston,RI 02920 or RI Veterans Home Chapel Fund, 480 Metacom Ave., Bristol, RI 02809. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Sansone Funeral Home, Bristol.
