Ms Lydia F. Garista

Miss Lydia F. Garista, age 87, of High Street, Bristol, died Saturday, June 19, 2010 at Newport Hospital. Born in Bristol and a lifelong resident, she was a daughter of the late Francesco and Clelia (Santulli) Garista. She was a graduate of Colt Memorial High School, Class of 1940 and the Johnson and Wales Business Academy in 1942. She was a secretary for the Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corp. formerly in Bristol and Portsmouth for over 40 years until retiring a number of years ago. She had previously worked at the former US Rubber Company. She was an active communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and was a member of the Rosary and Altar Society, the Nocturnal Adoration Society, a Sunday Morning Collection Counter, Feast and Fall Bazaar Committee member and volunteer for many years at the church. In 1995, she received the highest honor of the Parish when she was named Chief Marshal of its 16th of July Feast Celebration in honor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. She was also a long-time Blithewold volunteer. She cherished spending time with family, loved to travel, and was an avid reader. She is survived by several cousins and was “Auntie” to Pamela Delaney, Susan, Raymond and Stephen De Leo and to Cruz Goler, Carroll Delaney, R.D., Amanda, Isabella and Stephen De Leo. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Antoinette A. Garista. Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol, Thursday, June 24, 2010 at 9:00 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 141 State Street, Bristol. Burial will follow in St. Marys Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol. Visiting hours Wednesday from 4:00-8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 141 State Street, Bristol, RI 02809.
