Mrs Vernita Kempf

Mrs. Vernita 'Vern' (Stolz) Kempf, 95, of Barrington, who taught fourth grade at Nayatt School in that town for almost thirty years, died Sunday, November 16, 2014 at the Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center in Providence of Congestive Heart Failure. A native of Schenectady, NY, she was the daughter of Louis H. and Mae Miller Stolz. Her father was sports editor of the Schenectady Gazette; her mother, who later resided in Bristol, was employed as a bookkeeper. Educated in Schenectady public schools, she was a 1941 graduate of what is now known as State University of New York at Albany, majoring in biology. After completing secretarial studies at the Katherine Gibbs School in New York City, she was employed as an administrative assistant at the American Museum of Natural History in New York. In 1942, she married Christopher S. Kempf, orginally of Pomfret, CT. Their 58 year marriage ended with his death in 2000. He was employed for over 30 years by Providence Washington Insurance Company, retiring in 1980 as senior vice president. The Kempfs moved to Barrington in 1960. In 1961, she became employed by the Town of Barrington at Nayatt School as a fourth grade teacher. She retired in 1990. They maintained a second home in Pascoag for many years until Mr. Kempf's passing. She is survived by a son, Paul Kempf of Los Angeles, CA. Funeral services and burial will be private.
