Mrs. Sue J. (Castigliego) Salcone, age 92, of Roma Street, Bristol, died peacefully Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at the Silver Creek Manor surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Matthew J. Salcone, her husband of almost 70 years. Born in Bristol and a lifelong resident, she was a daughter of the late Matteo and Luigina (Murgo) Castigliego. Sue was a dress maker for the former Priscilla Sportswear Company in Bristol for 25 years and the former Well Made Dress Company in Warren for a few years, retiring in 1986. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Bristol where she was a member of the Rosary and Altar Society, the Nocturnal Adoration Society, Feast and Bazaar worker for many years, the former Mothers Club at the Our Lady of Mount Carmel School. In 1998 she and her husband Matthew received the highest honor of the parish, they were named Chief Marshals of the 16th of July Feast in honor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Sue was also a member of the Hope Circle, Daughters of Isabella, a volunteer for the Columban Fathers summer festival, a member of the former House of Judah Prayer Group for many years, a member of the Leonardo daVinci Lodge, Sons of Italy and the Bristol Senior Citizens Council. Sue will be remembered as a marvelous cook and baker, well known for her eggplant and pasta dishes and Italian cookies. She is survived in addition to her husband, by three children, Therese M. Pasqual (Manuel), Victoria A. Cortellessa (John P. Jr.) and Peter M. Salcone, all of Bristol, six grandchildren, Susan Pasqual (Neil Thompson), John Paul Cortellessa, III, Matthew Salcone, Valerie McCue (David), Michael Salcone and Jennifer Carvalho (Filipe), three great grandchildren, Elijah Carvalho, Chloe McCue and Sienna Carvalho, a sister, Marie Pirri and two brothers, Gaetano and Dominic Castigliego, all of Bristol. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Annie Salvaggi and Lucy DelPiano, and five brothers, Nicholas, Paul, Cosmo, Damiano Castigliego and Matteo Castigliego, Jr. A Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, September 14, 2015 at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 141 State Street, Bristol. The Rev. Joseph D. Santos, Jr., was the Principal Celebrant and Homilist for the Mass. The Rev. Charles Lintz, S.S.C. and The Rev. William Sullivan, S.S.C. concelebrated the Mass. Readers were grandchildren, Susan Pasqual and John Paul Cortellessa, III and Offertory Gifts were presented by granddaughters, Susan Pasqual, Valerie McCue and Jennifer Carvalho. Francoise Garrepy was the Organist, Elise Dufour was the Flutist, Rebecca Cote was the Violinist, along with Denise Dufour, Cantor and Antonette McKenzie and Mark Garrepy, vocalists, provided the music for the Mass. Burial followed in St. Marys Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol, where Father Santos read the committal prayers. The following were pallbearers; John Paul Cortellessa, III, Matthew L. Salcone, Michael A. Salcone, David F. McCue, Filipe C. Carvalho and Neil Thompson. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 141 State Street, Bristol, RI 02809.
