Mrs. Olivia Silvia

Mrs. Olivia 'Ollie' (Sousa) Silvia, age 97 of 327 State Street, Bristol, died peacefully Friday, June 4, 2010 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Arthur Silvia. Born in St. Miquel, Acores, a daughter of Louis and Julia (Ferreira Marques) Sousa, she was a Bristol resident most of her life and a previous resident of Newport for a number of years. Mrs. Silvia worked for Converse Rubber Co., formerly in Bristol for 23 years, retiring in 1975. She had previously worked for the former US Rubber Co. and Newport Hospital. She was a communicant of St. Elizabeth's Church and a member of the Holy Rosary Sodality, Legion of Mary and the Holy Ghost Society, a member of the Nocturnal Adoration Society at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, and a member of the Bristol Senior Citizens Council and the Benjamin Church Senior Center. She is survived by four daughters, Mary Lou Anderson and her husband, John, Olivia Belmore and her husband Roger and Patricia A. Silvia, all of Bristol and Annette Silvia of Warwick, a daughter-in-law, Kathleen Silvia of Tiverton, sixteen grandchildren and twenty-five great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Arthur D. and Louis Silvia, two brothers, James and Louis Sousa and four sisters, Julia and Mary Sousa, Grace Massa and Elvira Ferreira. Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol, Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at 9:00 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Elizabeth's Church, 577 Wood Street, Bristol. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol. Visiting hours, Monday, 4:00-8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Elizabeth's Church, 577 Wood Street, Bristol, RI 02809 or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
