Mrs Mary Nenna

Mrs. Mary (Palumbo) Nenna, 94 of Bourne Street, Bristol, passed peacefully on March 1, 2015. She was the wife of the late Frederick Nenna, they were married for 60 years. Born in Bristol and a lifelong resident, she was a daughter of the late Dominic and Nancy (Coppolecchio) Palumbo. Mary graduated from Colt Memorial High School in 1940, and she organized many of the class reunions. A communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, she was involved in many church activities such as a past president of the Our Lady of Mount Carmel School's former mother's club, a past president and former charter member of the former Children of Mary Society, a member and secretary of the former Parish Council, she served for many, many years on the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church 16th of July Feast Committee and was honored as the Chief Marshal in 1975. Mary was a active member of the Rosary and Altar Society and the Nocturnal Adoration Society, at the church as well as a member and Past Chancellor for 4 years for the Hope Circle, Daughters of Isabella, Bristol. Locally, Mary was a member of the town's recreation board and was chosen in 1975 as Chief Marshal of the Children's parade. For many years, Mary took great joy in the married couples and women's bowling leagues. She also enjoyed sewing, cooking, and doing crafts. She worked at the former Priscilla Sportswear, Bristol High School, and she retired from the RI Veterans Home in 1986. Mary also enjoyed volunteering for the Heart Association and the Cancer Society. Mary is survived by her three children, Katherine, Frederick, and Nancy Jo, her sister, Grace White and five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death in addition to her husband and parents by her brothers and sisters, Antonio Palumbo, Ann Bernstein, Louise Luther, Eleanor Vollaro, Salvatore, Matthew and Victoria Palumbo. Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol, Monday, March 9, 2015 at 9:00 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 141 State Street, Bristol. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol. Visiting hours Sunday, March 8, 2015 from 2:00-5:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rhode Island Veterans Home, 480 Metacom Avenue, Bristol, RI 02809.
