Mrs. Mary Louise (O'Gara) Flanagan, age 71 of Bristol passed away early Tuesday morning, July 27, 2010 after a courageous four year battle with ovarian cancer. She was the wife of the late Robert E. Flanagan. They enjoyed 54 years of marriage together and were rarely separated. Born at home in Bristol, and a lifelong resident, she was the daughter of the late Joseph L. and Bridget R. (Abenante) O'Gara. Mrs. Flanagan was married and graduated from Colt Memorial High School in 1956. In addition to raising her family she was personally most proud of continuing her education later in life by earning an Associates Degree from CCRI with a perfect 4.0 GPA. She was very much the homemaker, enjoying cooking and spending time with family, however she held various jobs, most notably a clerical position at Roger Williams University which she retired from in 1999. She was a communciant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Bristol and she was a veracious reader, completing multiple books in a single weekend. She also collected and maintained several prized collections of interesting coins, porcelain dolls and other figurines. She valued good food and good conversations. She is survived by her son, Robert E. Flanagan, Jr. and his wife Donna (Shepherd) Flanagan of Bristol, daughter, Donna Lee (Flanagan) Jacobson of West Greenwich, five grandchildren, Ashley and Katelyn Jacobson, Jason Flanagan and Zachary and Joshua Jacobson and her sister, Carol Ann (O'Gara) Cotta of Bristol. In addition to her husband in March of this year and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph L. O'Gara, Jr. Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol, Friday, July 30, 2010 at 9:00 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Mary's Church, 330 Wood Street, Bristol. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol. Visiting hours, Thurdsay from 4:00-7:00 PM.
