Mrs. Mary Inez Bertrand

Mrs. Mary Inez (Irizarry) Bertrand, age 89 of Benjamin Church Manor and formerly of Sowams Drive, Bristol, died Saturday, May 22, 2010 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Joseph A. Bertrand. Born in Caborojo, Puerto Rico, a daughter of the late Ramon A. and Daria (Matos) Irizarry, she was a resident of Bristol for most of her life moving here from New York City in 1955. She worked for the former M&R Sportswear for 13 years and previously worked at Bloomingdales in New York City. Mrs. Bertrand was a communicant of St. Marys Church and a member of the former Womens Guild at the church. She is survived by a son, Joseph A. Bertrand, Jr. and his wife, Carol of East Greenwich, a daughter, Laura L. Cheatom and her husband, Daniel of Bristol, three grandchildren, Christopher M. Bertrand of Cumberland, Jennifer L. Race of Lincoln and Daniel F. Cheatom, Jr. of Bristol, three great grandchildren, Jeremy B., Joshua T., and Janelle E. Woods, a brother, Ralph A. Irizarry of Weehawken, NJ. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Rosemary Russo. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at 10:00 AM in St. Marys Church, 330 Wood Street, Bristol. Burial will be private and visiting hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bristol Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 775, or St. Mary's Church, 330 Wood Street, both Bristol, RI 02809.
