Mrs. Maria M. Pratas

Mrs. Maria M. (Marcelina Tomas) Pratas, age 68 of 497 Metacom Avenue, Bristol, died Tuesday, March 16 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Manuel V. Pratas, her husband of 47 years. Born in Penhascoso, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Capitolina (Marcelina) Tomas. A resident of Bristol for 41 years. She was a knitting assistant for the Loluis Hornick Co., Inc. of Haverstraw, NY for 20 years, retiring in 2004. She was a communicant of St. Elizabeths Church and was active in the prayer groups at the church. Maria will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, known for her hard work, her loyalty to family and friends and her honesty in opinion. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Joseph T. Pratas of Bristol, Roger P. Pratas and his wife, Deborah of Burrillville and five grandchildren, Kristina, Jenell, Kimberly, Roger, Jr. and Ryan Pratas, two brothers, Severo M. and Antonio Tomas, both of Portugal, four sisters, Iilda Baptista, Iria Martins, Felismina Alphao, all of Portugal and Margarida Martins of Florida. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Manuel Tomas and a sister, Maria Emilia Dias. Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol, Saturday, March 20, 2010 at 9:00 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Elizabeths Church, 577 Wood Street, Bristol. Burial will follow in North Burial Ground, Hope Street, Bristol. Visiting hours Friday, March 19 from 4:00-8:00 PM.
