Mrs. Margaret Marilyn (McManus) Emery, age 88 of Bristol, RI and formerly of Summit, NJ, died in the loving arms of her three daughters on Sunday, April 27, 2014. Born in West Orange, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Philip and Catherine (McMulkin) McManus. As a first-generation American she proudly served in the United States Navy as a WAVE during WWII and Korea and was a registered dietician. She is survived by three daughters, Karen A. Smith of Bristol, RI, Marcia L. Westveer (William) of Grand Rapids, MI and Kathleen M. Heeringa (Buddy) of Grant, MI. She was the beloved Nana of eight grandchildren, Amanda L. Riggins, TSGT. Benjamin J. Westveer (Rachel), James P. Lancaster (Elizabeth), Kevin R. Smith (Johanna), Katherine E. Westveer, Jeffery A. Westveer (Christina), Shawn D. Stephens and Liam F. Stephens. Great-Grandmother to Cayden and Lily Lancaster and Annabelle Riggins. She was Nana by-love to Timothy E. Santos. Marilyn was predeceased by her husband, James H. Emery, three brothers: Bernard, Philip, Patrick, two sisters: Virginia and Patricia, and her son-in-law David P. Smith. She will be remembered by all who knew her for her amazing energy and the worlds-best applesauce and cookies. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial Friday, May 2, 2014 at 11:00 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 141 State Street, Bristol. Immediately following the Mass of Christian Burial Military Honors will take place on the Bristol Town Common. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted and burial will be private.
