Mrs Louise Eleanor Rounds

August 29, 1914 — October 18, 2011

Mrs. Louise Eleanor (Swett) Rounds, 97 years of 114 Union Street, Bristol died peacefully Tuesday afternoon October 18th in her home, in her favorite chair by the window in the sunshine as she had always wished, surrounded by her entire loving family. Louise was born August 29th 1914 in Boston, MA the only daughter of Albert Foster Swett and Annie (Jeffery) Swett. Her mother died when she was 14 months old and she lived in Nova Scotia with her Aunt Flora and twelve cousins while her father served in the Royal Scotts Highlanders in World War I. She went to grammar school in a one room schoolhouse in Tusket, Nova Scotia. When she was 12 years old, her father moved back to Massachusetts and she lived with her father, uncle, and paternal grandmother. She completed high school in Woburn, MA where she then met Archie Rounds from Bristol, RI. They married in 1932 in St. Michael's Church in Bristol. Her son, Fredric was born in 1933. She has lived at the same Bristol address since 1932. After the death of her husband in 1948, she was left as a single mother with a young son. Louise proved to be a hard worker, working 7 days a week as the manager of the First National Store, as well as a housekeeper. She later worked as a cook at the Hope Drug Store, preparing and serving lunches and working the soda fountain. Walking to and from work each day, Louise' working tenure at Buffington's Drug Store lasted 30 years until her retirement in 1982. Louise dearly loved her only son, Fredric, who predeceased her on October 7, 2011. She is survived by her devoted daughter-in-law, Louise (Willard) Rounds of Bristol; and her three grandchildren and their families, Bradford Rounds of Chepachet, Thomas and Kirsten Rounds of East Greenwich and Martha and Erik Watson of Bristol. She was also the great grandmother to Matthew, Brian, Anika and Graham Rounds and Rebecca, Julia and Daniel Watson. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Louise Perry of Santa Cruz, CA and several cousins in Nova Scotia. Her final years at home were made possible by her loving family and also by many devoted care givers, including, Colleen, Katherine, Tracey, Ellen, Harriet, Cheryl and Edenia and Registered Nurses, Gloria, Erin and Joan. Through her entire life she took great enjoyment in crocheting (especially snowflakes and angels which were passed on to many friends), tatting, cooking and baking (especially pies) and going out to eat. She loved her pets, especially her childhood dog Buddy. She loved to travel, and especially loved to return to Nova Scotia to visit all her cousins. She will be remembered as honest, thrifty, loving, dependable, hard working and for having an abundance of common sense which she shared with all. Her family will miss her dearly but are comforted by her full and active life and that in her very last days, she wished to join her son, who she loved so much and her mother. Private funeral services are to be in St. Michael's Episcopal Church, with burial in North Burial Ground and visiting hours are respectfully omitted, as were her wishes. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Beacon Hospice, 1 Catamore Blvd., East Providence, RI 02914 or to Ocean State Nursing Services, 3929 Mendon Road, Cumberland, RI 02864.
