Mrs. Joyce (Squatrito) Simoes, age 75, of Echo Farm Drive, Bristol, died Sunday, May 17, 2015 at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of David R. Simoes, her husband of 51 years. Born in Providence and a lifelong resident of Bristol, she was a daughter of the late Matthew M. and Anna A. (Pirri) Squatrito. Joyce was a graduate of Colt Memorial High School, Class of 1958 and a member of the class reunion committee for many years. Following her graduation, she worked for several years as a Data entry clerk for the Amica Insurance Company formerly in Providence, leaving in 1964 to raise her family. In the late 1970's and early 1980's she worked for Quito's Restaurant in Bristol for 10 years. Joyce was an active communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Bristol, where she was a member of the Rosary and Altar Society, the Nocturnal Adoration Society, the 16th of July Feast Committee and volunteer for the feast for many years, in the 1970's she was active in the Our Lady of Mount Carmel School P.T.G. In 2008, Joyce and her husband David, were honored by Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church by being named Chief Marshals of the 110th 16th of July Feast Celebration in honor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Joyce was also a member of the Hope Circle, Daughters of Isabella, a member of the Red Hats Society, Wednesday Night and Tuesday Day cards with friends group, a member of the Challengers team in the Hopeworth Bocce League, a member of the Saturday morning beauty salon and breakfast group at Chic Boutique, a member of the Dudek Bowling leagues for many years and has been a snowbird in Florida for the past 10 winters. Joyce had one of those larger than life personalities and you always knew when Joyce was around by her hearty laugh and love for life. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Anne Marie Higgins (Michael) and Patricia A. Pires (David) all of Bristol, five grandchildren, Matthew D. Pires, Brendan M., Brianna M. and Mitchell R. Higgins and Ryan D. Pires, a brother, Jerome A. Squatrito (Elaine) and a sister, Nina McCarthy (Patrick), all of Bristol. Also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol, Friday, May 22, 2015 at 9:00 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 141 State Street, Bristol. Burial will follow in North Burial Ground, Hope St., Bristol. Visiting hours will be Thursday, May 21, 2015 from 4:00 - 8:00 PM.
