Mrs. Helen Hutson (Weber) Kirchner peacefully passed away in her sleep at the age of 86 in Bristol, Rhode Island on May 14, 2012. Hutson was born in Chicago, Illinois on February 17, 1926, the daughter of Neal and Helen Hutson Weber. Schooled on the North Shore of Long Island, she graduated from Roslyn High School and attained an English degree from Adelphi University. Amongst her fondest early memories were summer camp in Maine, shopping with Mother in New York City, and a seventh birthday party at the home of a close friend of her mothers, Amelia Earhart. During her early adult life, Hutson worked on Madison Avenue in New York City among the early “Mad-Men” in the advertising business. After marriage, she moved to Poughkeepsie, New York, where she lived for 50 years. She was a homemaker when her children were young, later spending many years managing a doctors office in Poughkeepsie. Having four boys, she became a big sports fan, and was especially fond of the New York Giants. She was a communicant of St. Pauls Episcopal Church in Poughkeepsie, and later St. Pauls Episcopal Church in Pleasant Valley. Hutsons love of cats was legendary, and the years she shared with her beloved Octavious were special. An avid reader, she belonged to several book clubs throughout her life, and especially enjoyed her many years in a club with several female professors at Vassar College. To most, Hutson was known for her unique wit. Hutson moved to Barrington, Rhode Island in 2005 to be near her son Matthew and his family. She was a member of St. Johns Episcopal Church in Barrington. She was predeceased by her husband Charles E. Kirchner, a graduate of the Juilliard School of Music, and her sister, Marcia-Marie Weber Fowler Canavello. She is survived by her children, Jeffrey Richard Martin (Sue) of Clayton, CA; Bradford Neal Martin (Gwen) of Greenville, South Carolina; Peter Newland Martin of New Canaan, CT; Matthew Carl Kirchner (Wendy) of Barrington, RI; and Stacey Kirchner Calogero (Bill) of Lake George, NY. She was a grandmother (Gramma Snow, Gramma Sprite, and Grammy) to five boys and five girls, and had two great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. May 26th at St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Bristol, R.I. The family will greet friends at the St. Michaels Parish House following the service. A gravesite internment service will take place at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery on Saturday, June 2nd at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations to benefit Hutson's grandnephew, Tommy Fowler, be made to the 'Fowler Family Irrevocable Trust' and sent in care of Susan Fowler, 11 Edgecumb Road, West Milford, N.J. 07480.
