Mrs Elvona Mary Tavares

Mrs. Elvona 'Vonie' Mary (Gilman) Tavares, age 89 of Military Street, Houlton, Maine formerly of Roma Street, Bristol, died peacefully, Sunday, October 7, 2012 at Houlton Regional Hospital, Houlton, Maine. She was the wife of the late James Tavares. Born and raised in Bancroft, Maine, she was the daughter of the late Halcott A. and Alice E. (Irish) Gilman. She had been a Bristol resident for 62 years before moving to Houlton, ME. She worked for the former Bristol Manufacturing Company formerly in Bristol for 10 years retiring in 1985. She was a communicant of St. Elizabeth's Church, Bristol and she loved cooking, knitting, sewing and music. She is survived by two sisters, Daisy Deering of Orient, Maine, Marlene Potter of Drew Plantation, Maine, a brother Halcott Gilman of NY, three sister-in-laws, Irene Frye of OH, Hilda Mindyas of TX and Julie Travasso of Bristol, and many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Fred Gilman, two sisters, Hallie Graham and Faye Hersom. Funeral Services from the Sansone Funeral Home 192 Wood Street, Bristol, Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at 10:00 AM with a graveside service at 11:00 AM in St. Mary's Cemetery, Chestnut Street.
