Mrs. Eileen Florence (McCary) Velleca, age 80, of Stephen Drive, Bristol, died Sunday, June 12 in Poway, California. She was the wife of the late Francis H. Velleca, who preceded her in death in 1994, her long-time love and pride whom she married in 1972, they moved to Baldwin, NY where they welcomed two children into their hearts and family. Eileen was born in Jersey City, New Jersey on August 12, 1930, she was the only child of James Gideon McCary of Edgefield, SC and Eileen Florence Keeley of Hasbrouck Heights, NJ. She grew up in Hasbrouck Heights alongside her cousin, Kathleen Kiley Cordo of Toms River, NJ. Eileen was a teacher at Corpus Christi Elementary School in Hasbrouck Heights, a 6th Grade teacher in New York City and, after tirelessly working a full-time job, attend night school and received as Masters Degree at Fordham University in NYC. A devout Roman Catholic, she was a Eucharistic Ministers as well as an advocate for the homeless; working for years at a homeless shelter and food bank in New York. Never a bad word to say about anyone, never condemning and always seeing the good in everyone, Eileen was known for her sense of humor, her love of a good laugh, good company and, of course, good food. She laughed heartily because she loved whole-heartedly. Her ability for acceptance was immeasurable and her ability to ease a troubled mind and heart was remarkable. Having fought illnesses involving her heart, lungs and throat for over 10 years, Eileen moved to California with her daughter Sammi where she valiantly fought her final battle. She is survived by her son Paul J. Velleca of NewYork, NY, his children her beloved grandchildren, Joseph, Brina, Hailey, Alivia and Jordan as well as her daughter Sammi E. Gaudreau of Poway, CA and her husband, Daniel and their children her beloved grandchildren, Noah and Ian. Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol, Saturday, June 25, 2011 at 8:30 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Mary's Church, 330 Wood Street, Bristol. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol. Visitation is Saturday morning only at 8:30 AM.
