Dorothy S. Dottie (Saucier) Viera, 86, of Bristol, RI passed away peacefully at Miriam Hospital in Providence on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 after a brief illness. She was the loving wife of the late Kenneth J. Viera for 39 years before his passing on November 2, 2004. The year of Kens passing they would have celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on November 28th. Born in Bristol, RI, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Antoinette (Provost) Saucier. Dottie attended St. Marys Elementary School, graduating in 1951. She went on to attend Colt Memorial High School graduating in 1955. Dottie was a lifelong communicant of St. Marys Church in Bristol. She worked for both the Bristol Public Schools as well as the Bristol-Warren Regional School District as an Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent for 21 years. She was a member and former President of the St. Marys Womans Guild; a founding member of the Bristol Youth Soccer Association; A Brownie Troop Leader; and an enthusiastic CCD teacher at her beloved St. Marys Church. She was also the Chairperson of the Emmaus Group at St. Marys Church for many years. Dottie continued to volunteer for the Bristol-Warren Regional School District after her retirement in 2000. She later substituted at the town hall as the secretary to the town administrator as well as worked as the receptionist. One of her greatest pleasures in retirement was working as a tour guide at the Burnside Building with her lifelong dearest friend, Theresa Simmons. Dottie was an avid reader of books in large print, a fierce high-low-jack player and a dedicated Boston Red Sox, New York Giants, and college basketball fan. In her youth she enjoyed playing volleyball and bowling. Dottie will be missed by her children: Ann M. Viera, Margaret M. DeFelice, Kenneth J. Viera, Jr.; her grandchildren: Torri L. Viera, Kayleigh E. Viera, Benjamin M. DeFelice, and Matthew K. DeFelice; her great grandchild: Ellie G. Viera; her sister: Irene Caulder; and anyone who ever had the pleasure of making her acquaintance. She was predeceased in death by her husband Kenneth, her parents, and her siblings: Genevieve Carroll. Donalda Martin, and Marie Sylvester. Visiting Hours will be held at Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol on Monday, June 10, 2024 from 4:00 7:00 PM. Her funeral will start from Sansone Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 at 9:00 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Marys Church, 330 Wood Street, Bristol at 10:00 AM. Dottie will be laid to rest with her husband, Ken at St. Marys Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dotties name to Rogers Free Library or the Bristol Fire and Rescue.
