Mrs. Dorothy M. Gilroy, age 90, of 41 Union Street, Bristol, died peacefully Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at her home, surrounded by her loving family and with the wonderful care of the hospice team of Visiting Nurse Services of Newport and Bristol Counties. She was the wife of the late Chester E. Gilroy, her husband of 52 years who died in 1998. Born in Bristol and a lifelong resident, she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Marie (Lavender) Morris. Dorothy was a graduate of Colt Memorial High School, Bristol, Class of 1938 and a Katharine Gibbs School graduate. She was a secretary for a number of years for the former Collins and Aikman Company and a receptionist at the Bristol County Medical Center for 10 years, retiring in 1978. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church and a Meals On Wheels volunteer for a number of years. She is survived by four daughters, Diane Stanley and her husband David of Barrington, Martha Gross of Portland, OR, Elisa Gilroy of Bristol and Janet Gilroy-Lewis and her husband Philip of North Attleboro, MA, five grandchildren, Bryan Stanley and his wife Natasha, Ellen Stanley, Jeffrey Stanley and his wife Chelsea, Elizabeth Gross and her partner Jeffrey Saltzman and Thomas Gross and his wife Rebecca, two great grandchildren, Hope and Zane Stanley. Funeral services and Burial will be private. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.
