Mrs Delia S. Martin

Mrs. Delia S. (Sousa) Martin, age 86 of 325 State Street, Bristol, died Thursday, May 26, 2011 at the Warren Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Warren. She was the wife of the late Manuel C. Martin, her husband of 55 years who died in 1999. Born in Bristol and a lifelong resident, she was a daughter of the late Manuel Falcoa and Mary (DaPonte) Sousa. Mrs. Martin was a nurses aide for several years working at the RI Veterans Home and in private duty nursing. She previously was a rubber worker for the former Carr's Manufacturing Company for 10 years. She was a communicant of St. Elizabeth's Church, Bristol. She was a member of the Benjamin Church Manor Senior Center and loved knitting and traveling especially to Bermuda. She is survived by two grandchildren, Brian A. Martin and his wife Debbie of Medford, Oregon and Rebecca L. 'Becky' Denson and her husband Robert of Bristol, three great grandchildren, Joshua Tremblay of Riverside and Samantha and Bradford Denson, a sister, Georgianna Almeida and her companion, Albert Proffitt, all of Bristol. Also survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceeded in death by a son, Allan R. 'Chuck'Martin, three brothers, Manuel Falcoa, Frank and John Sousa, four sisters, Mary Torres-Pimental, Emma Arruda, Emily Bettencourt and Angelina Travers. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at 10:00 AM in St. Elizabeth's Church, 577 Wood Street, Bristol. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Chestnut Street, Bristol. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.
