Mrs. Catherine H. Butler

Mrs. Catherine (Hammill) Butler, age 88, of 149 State Street, Bristol, died Sunday, October 17, 2010 at the Elmhurst Extended Care Facility, Providence. She was the wife of the late Francis J. Butler. Born in Providence and a lifelong resident of Bristol, she was a daughter of the late William P. and Katherine (Walsh) Hammill. Mrs. Butler was a graduate of Colt Memorial High School, Bristol, Class of 1939 and in the following year during the Bristol 4th of July Celebration she read the Declaration of Independence during the patriotic excercises at Colt School. She was an operator for the former New England Telephone Company for 15 years, retiring in 1953. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, Bristol and in 1935 she accepted the great honor of crowning Our Blessed Mother's Statue for the May Procession. She also enjoyed daily prayer visits to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church for over 35 years. A women of great faith, she died with her rosary beads in her hands that her son, William brought her back from Rome a couple of years ago. Her greatest joy was her loving family and the many wonderful times she had spent together with them. She is survived by two sons, John F. Butler and his wife, Kathleen K., of Riverside, William J. Butler of New York City, three grandchildren, John F. Jr., Erin and Andrew Butler, all of Riverside. Funeral services from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol, Thursday, October 21 at 9:00 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Mary's Church, 330 Wood Street, Bristol. Burial will follow in Juniper Hill Cemetery, Sherry Avenue, Bristol. Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 4:00-7:00 PM.
