Mrs Carol Holmes

Mrs. Carol (Connelly) Holmes, age 82, formerly of 149 Hopeworth Avenue, Bristol, RI (Hopeworth Estates), died peacefully Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at the Sakonnet Bay Manor, Tiverton, RI surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Richard W. Holmes, who preceded her in death 1991. Born in Dubuque, Iowa and an Bristol resident for many years, she was a daughter of the late Vincent J. and Ruth (Sullivan) Connelly. Carol was an graduate of Clarke College in Dubuque in 1954 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and then she attended the St. Louis University Medical School in St. Louis, MO where she received her certification as an Registered Dietician in 1955. She worked at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence as an Registered Dietician for many years, retiring in 1987, and following her retirement she was an devoted caregiver for private families in the Bristol area. Carol was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, Bristol, Carol was a former member of the Bristol Substance Abuse Task Force and volunteer for a number of years at Coggeshall Farm in Bristol and was a former Den Mother for the Cub Scouts for a number of years. She is survived by three sons, Michael J. Holmes (Sue) of Edina, Minnesota, R. Scott Holmes (Sharon) of Portsmouth, John T. Holmes (Kristen), Bristol, nine grandchildren, Richard S. Holmes, Jr., Lauren M., Kathryn M., Charles M., Daniel J., Michael R., Matthew J., Haley E. and Thomas J. Holmes, and a brother, Mark V. Connelly, M.D. of Lacrosse, Wisconsin. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Lois A. Connelly. Funeral services were held from the Sansone Funeral Home, 192 Wood Street, Bristol, RI on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary's Church, Bristol RI. Burial followed in North Burial Ground, Hope Street, Bristol.
